Head of Design
Turning business requirements into clear, practical creative solutions across design, web and digital.
About Me
I’m a graphic, web and digital designer with more than 30 years’ experience across design, print, branding, advertising, web and digital production.
My career began in traditional studio and print environments, but I started developing web skills in the late 1990s and have continued to adapt as the creative industry has changed. Today, my work combines established design and production experience with websites, digital content, video and other forms of visual communication.
I’m naturally practical, meticulous and curious. I like to understand what a business is trying to achieve, who it needs to communicate with and what will work in practice, rather than simply making something look good.
What I Do at Kaizen
As Head of Design at Kaizen Group, I lead the day-to-day creative work across Kaizen and its related organisations.
My role covers graphic design, branding, print, responsive websites, digital content, presentations, video and promotional campaigns. I work closely with directors, managers and colleagues to understand what they need to achieve and turn that into clear, practical creative work.
A significant part of my role is designing, building and maintaining our Webflow websites. This includes page and CMS development, content presentation, usability and practical on-page SEO, as well as the supporting digital assets needed around them.
I also manage projects from initial brief and concept through to artwork, production and final delivery, helping ensure our brands remain clear and consistent across print and digital communications.
Experience
Before joining Kaizen in 2022, I spent 19 years at Communique, a full-service design and marketing agency in Beverley. My role developed from hands-on graphic design into a broad senior creative position involving client work, creative leadership and aspects of studio and production management.
During that time I worked across brand identity, advertising, promotions, print, websites, digital presentations, packaging, exhibitions and video for organisations across a wide range of sectors.
My move into digital began much earlier. While working at Ewen Communications in 1999, I started training in web development alongside my graphic design work, establishing the foundations for the combination of graphic, web and digital design that forms much of my role today.
Although the technology and tools have changed considerably throughout my career, my approach remains much the same: understand the requirement, solve the problem creatively and produce something that works.
