Turning financial detail into clear answers and practical advice.

About Me

Originally from Poland, I moved to England in 2006 and have since made it my second home, building both my career and my family here.

My career journey has been quite varied – and certainly not a straight line into accountancy, although I completed A levels and achieved qualifications in Business and Accounting in Poland. I’ve worked in public sector administration, spent more than three years teaching at a Technical College in Poland and, after moving to the UK, worked as a factory operative before deciding on returning to my accountancy roots.

While on maternity leave, I took the opportunity to retrain in accountancy. I started working in accounts in 2012 and haven’t looked back since. I’m now an ACCA-qualified accountant and FMAAT, and joined Kaizen in December 2015.

I pride myself on attention to detail and accuracy. My motto is: if you’re going to do something, do it right – preferably the first time around! I’m also always looking for ways to improve how things are done and make processes more efficient. When something takes me into unfamiliar territory, though, I like to take my time, research it properly and understand the detail before finding the best way forward.

What I Do at Kaizen

As a Senior Accountant, I look after a varied portfolio of clients, from limited companies and sole traders to charities and individuals.

My role covers a broad range of work, including year-end and management accounts, corporation and personal tax, VAT, CIS and cash-flow forecasting. I also meet regularly with clients, help new clients through the onboarding process and provide day-to-day advice and support.

Another part of my role that I particularly enjoy is looking at the systems and processes behind the numbers. Whether it’s improving our internal systems, setting up accounting software or helping with a migration to Xero, I like finding ways to make things work more accurately and efficiently.

I also review work and support junior members of the team – and, perhaps unsurprisingly given my teaching background, I enjoy being able to share what I’ve learned with others.

Experience

Before joining Kaizen in 2015, I worked in the accounts department of a large estate agency, progressing from Accounts Assistant to Accounts Manager. Before that, I gained my first UK accounting experience with Nightel, initially volunteering before moving into a paid Accounts Assistant role.

I retrained in the UK through AAT and went on to complete full ACCA qualification. My earlier education is just as varied as my career – alongside accounting, I have a Master’s degree in engineering and studied English at a Teacher’s College in Poland.

It might not be the most conventional route into accountancy, but the different roles and experiences along the way have taught me to be adaptable, curious and never afraid to learn something new.

Quick Fire

What do you enjoy most about your job?
Getting to the bottom of a problem and that satisfying moment when everything finally balances. I also enjoy finding a better or more efficient way of doing something – especially when it saves time without compromising accuracy.

What’s your approach to work?
If you’re going to do something, do it right – the first time around!

What might people be surprised to know about you?
Before becoming an accountant, I was a teacher in Poland. My career has also included everything from public sector administration to factory work, so accountancy definitely wasn’t always the plan!

Outside Kaizen?
Family time, cooking and gardening – and I’m a devoted Friends fan. It never gets old, no matter how many times I’ve seen an episode. I also love Grand Designs, Homes Under the Hammer and anything involving renovations, interiors and a good before-and-after transformation.

Perfect evening?
Probably Friends or a renovation programme on TV, with absolutely no spreadsheets in sight.
